As strange as it feels, today is the last school-day before Spring Break. I will not be posting new lessons nor activities next week but you can always scroll down my blog to access videos, courses, online games and activities.

Here is today’s FinCap Friday Presentation with Kahoot!

Here is Yanely from Next Gen Personal Finance with tips on getting by when you lose your job. The video is entitled “When Life Gives You Lemons…”

Today’s lesson activity is for all of my students, whether you take IB Business Management or Personal Finance.

Activity: Use https://www.finviz.com/ to answer the questions below. Most of you are familiar with the FinViz Visualization Map.

See if you can answer the following 10 questions and challenges:

1. List companies that have products that you use on your phone. What other companies’ products and services do you use?

2. Which industry group had the largest number of companies with a positive return over the past week (3/30/2020 – 4/3/2020)? How about over the past three months?

3. Find three companies that are headquartered in Pennsylvania and determine how the stocks have performed over the past year.
Is this indicative of how our state is doing economically? Hint: May need to google “S&P 500 companies in [your state here]” to help with this question.

4. If you were given five hundred dollars to invest today, in hopes of earning some profit, what stocks would you purchase and why? Hint: You can find the stock price of the individual companies by scrolling over the company name. Assume that you can buy fractions of a share too.

5. Over the past week/month/year (can choose any interval), which stock has been a better performer…

Amazon vs. Walmart
Verizon vs. AT&T
Visa vs. Mastercard
Apple vs. Microsoft

6. What is the largest company in each sector?

7. Which industry has the most companies? How many?

8. What is the worst performing stock over the past day/week/month/year (choose your interval)?
– Look for news stories to explain their poor performance.

9. What is the best performing stock over the past day/week/month/year (choose your interval)?
– Look for news stories to explain their strong performance.

10. Identify 2-3 companies whose products are wants. Identify 2-3 companies whose products are needs.

Please stay healthy, get rest, have fun and make wise decisions over the next week. Enjoy the fresh spring air!

As you know, many businesses are either completely shut down or like many restaurants, they are operating with minimal staff offering minimal (or take-out only) services.
Do some research and see how our government hopes to rescue many businesses. You will need to look up the CARES Act and Families First Act. Be ready to discuss our government’s efforts to keep our economy going.
